Graphic Era Hospital
Dehradun, Uttarakhand
Graphic Era Hospital is an 800-bed super-specialty teaching hospital in Dehradun, Uttarakhand, designed by Renascent Consultants and completed in October 2023. Spanning 1.5 million square feet, it integrates a 150-seat medical college on a single campus — one of the largest integrated healthcare projects delivered in the Himalayan region. The facility targets IGBC Gold certification and was designed using biophilic principles, local materials, and patient-centric planning to set a new standard for healthcare architecture in North India.
Designed by Renascent Consultants, New Delhi — Architecture, Engineering & Interior DesignA Teaching Hospital Built for the Future
Graphic Era Hospital was mandated to establish a world-class, patient-centric healthcare ecosystem in Uttarakhand and emerge as a centre of excellence for quality healthcare and medical research in North India.
This project uniquely combines an active super-specialty hospital with a fully integrated medical college on a single master-planned campus — a model rare in India at this scale, demanding a design that serves patient recovery and medical education simultaneously without compromising either.
Renascent Consultants delivered on schedule in October 2023 — including through COVID-19 pandemic constraints — demonstrating the firm's capability on large, complex healthcare builds.
Six Principles Behind Every Decision
Strategically positioned large windows flood interiors with natural light. Integration with outdoor landscapes is designed to measurably accelerate patient recovery — a core principle of evidence-based healthcare design.
Color selections across patient areas are grounded in clinical color psychology. Each zone uses palettes shown to reduce anxiety and support recovery in active clinical environments.
Hospital and medical college share infrastructure, circulation, and clinical zones — enabling real-time medical education without disrupting patient care workflows at 800-bed scale.
Locally sourced materials were used wherever structurally viable — reducing construction carbon footprint and grounding the facility's identity within its Uttarakhand context.
The facility meets IGBC Gold criteria covering energy efficiency, water conservation, and indoor environment quality — among few green-certified hospital projects in Tier-2 India.
Department placement, circulation, and zoning were planned around patient flow — not structural convenience. Every layout decision was evaluated against its impact on patient experience.
Single-Window Design Delivery
Renascent Consultants provided Architecture, Structural Engineering, MEP Engineering, and Interior Design for the entire campus — operating as a single-window consultancy from concept through commissioning.
This integrated model eliminates coordination failures that commonly cause cost overruns on projects of this complexity. Architecture and engineering under one team.
Delivered on schedule in October 2023, despite construction spanning the COVID-19 pandemic period.
A New Standard for North India Healthcare
Graphic Era Hospital is designed to serve as the primary centre of excellence for healthcare in Uttarakhand — a state where quality tertiary care has historically required patients to travel to Delhi or Chandigarh.
At 800 beds and 1.5 million sq. ft. with an integrated 150-seat medical college, it is one of the largest integrated healthcare campuses in the Himalayan region.
Its IGBC Gold design establishes a sustainability benchmark for healthcare architecture in Tier-2 India.
